Ok, you’ve probably got some questions, least of all just who is Cold Case Gear? That's a great question. Cold Case Gear is a startup based out of rural Southwest Colorado, in the town of Pagosa Springs, Colorado. We are on a mission to not just create the best smartphone cases but also expand our insulating product line to products that outdoor enthusiasts really need. We're out here trying to solve a myriad of temperature related issues faced in the outdoors. 

We are a product first company. This means that we are devoted to only creating products that really work, instead of trying to market yesterdays newspaper to you. 

 

To be sure your cellphone will fit in the West Slope Case we recommend taking some measurements. The maximum measurements for your phone (or phone with a case on) are 6.5” long by 4” wide and .75” thick.

West Slope Case Dimensions - Dimensions are the total dimensions of the product. Maximum recommended phone size is 6.5" long by 4" wide and .75" thick.

Samsung Galaxy A Series. The newest A series comes in at 6.6" long but that will work with our dimensions provided there is no case. Always measure your phone to make sure it will fit with our West Slope Case. Most phones will fit without issue but the larger, or plus sized phones, may only fit without a case.

Environmental Factors

Is Aerogel Safe?

The aerogel insulation we use has the same chemical make up as sand and glass and it holds an OEKO-TEX certification that certifies it is free of harmful chemicals. If you find that you are done with your West Slope Case you can send it back to us so we can recycle some of its materials. 

Where are your products made?

We are a proud Made In The USA brand and we have great manufacturing partners in the Pacific Northwest. 

Do you even care about the environment!?

Whoa! Easy now...Yes, yes we do. We are committed to doing all we can to offset the damages that doing business does. We are a small company but we are donating 1% of our profits to Protect Our Winters.

Other FAQ

Is the West Slope Case compatible with wireless charging?

At this time the West Slope Case is not compatible with any form of wireless charging. Sorry!

My phone is overheating and turned off!

The sun is phones worst enemy! This is one reason that we invented our West Slope Case! Your phone has an ideal operating temperature range of around 32 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit. Direct exposure to the sun can make the internal temperature rise significantly and your phone will power off to save itself. Next time, make sure you toss it into a West Slope Case. If your phone has overheated and you need to use it go ahead and toss it somewhere shady and out of the sun, ideally in a pocket. 

My phone keeps dying in the cold!

Smartphones today utilize a lithium ion battery which rely on a chemical reaction to happen inside the battery to provide energy to your phone. When it's extremely cold out the internals of your lithium ion battery have a harder time moving around and drain the battery much faster. We built our aerogel phone case, dubbed the West Slope Case, to insulate your phone all day long so you never have to worry about the cold. 

The West Slope Case looks too big to put in my pocket.

We built the West Slope Case with external use in mind. We included a webbing loop so that you can clip it onto your backpack, climbing harness, sled, boat, or anything else. It is built to withstand the absolute worst elements and is completely sealed to the elements. It may still fit inside pockets of oversized winter clothing. 

You say it's waterproof but is it really?

Yes! Not only is it completely waterproof but you can even dunk it under water! Our airtight closure makes a hermetic seal and will keep water out to depths of around three feet. Should you find it dunked in a lake it has plenty of flotation to come back to the surface. We are thrilled with how well the waterproofing has worked for this product.

Will the West Slope Case interfere with bluetooth?

Nope! The West Slope Case will work with all your bluetooth devices including bluetooth snowboard helmets and the like. 

I need a phone case to keep phone warm.

We've got you covered! Our handy cellphone pouch can definitely keep your phone warm in the cold. It is designed to keep your phone protected from the elements all day. With our airtight closure you could even blow in a bit of warm breath to keep things extra warm. 

Do you make an Oppo phone case?
